The Philodendron Florida Ghost is a rare and striking hybrid known for its uniquely shaped leaves and ghostly white new growth, which gradually turns green as it matures. Here’s how to care for it:
1. Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its pale, ghostly foliage.
Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light may prevent the new leaves from turning white.
2. Watering
Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry.
Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to root rot. Use a well-draining pot and allow excess water to drain out.
3. Humidity & Temperature
Thrives in high humidity (60-80%), though it can tolerate lower levels.
Ideal temperature range: 65-85°F (18-29°C). Keep away from cold drafts and sudden temperature drops.
4. Soil
Use a well-draining, airy mix, such as:
Peat moss or coco coir
Perlite
Orchid bark
Worm castings (for nutrients)
5. Fertilizing
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer (like a 20-20-20) once a month during spring and summer. Reduce feeding in fall and winter.
6. Support & Pruning
Provide a moss pole or trellis to support climbing growth.
Prune dead or damaged leaves to maintain health and shape.
7. Repotting
Repot every 1-2 years or when roots outgrow the pot. Choose a pot only 1-2 inches larger to prevent excess soil moisture retention.
8. Pests & Problems
Common pests: Spider mites, thrips, mealybugs, and aphids—treat with neem oil or insecticidal soap.
Watch for yellowing leaves (overwatering) and brown tips (low humidity or underwatering).
Propagation
Easily propagated via stem cuttings in water or moist soil. Ensure the cutting has at least one node and place it in a humid, warm environment.
